Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson, the men behind the modern programming, are to be credited for bringing C language to the programming world.
It all started with the B Language, the latest programming language of those times, which didn't meet the coding requirements of a then newly developing UNIX operating system, bringing about a revolutionary change in programming world and lead a pathway for 'C'-"THE GODS PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE". In 1972 Dennis Ritchie at Bell Laboratories writes C and in 1978 the publication The C Programming Language by Kernighan and Ritche caused a revolution in the programming world.
The popularity for C increased with leaps and bounce, day by day, and there was an essential need of standardizing it. This task was taken up by the American National Standard Institute(ANSI),
by forming a committee X3J11. Later this was adopted by International Organization of Standardization(ISO) , which was called as C90. So the ANSI C was referred as C89 or C90.
